What is Snapseed?
Snapseed is the most famous photo editing application of iOS and about a year ago came to Android. It is an application with enough prestige, awarded with a prize for the best iPad app of 2012. With Snapseed we can edit photos very easily and get a result that could be described as professional.
How does it work?
Upon opening Snapsee it may prove to be a little overwhelming because of the amount of options and numerous explanations of each of them, but do not panic; if a word can clearly define this application is 'simplicity'.
As you open the app, it is recommended to set your device horizontally, (unless you plan to edit photos taken in vertical format) so you will not only obtain an overview on a larger scale of your photo, but will also have a better view of the several filters and options. In any case, what users see on their screen will be a top bar with several options, the image to-be-edited in the center, and the different options of effects and filters on the side or bottom (depending on the orientation of your device).
On the top bar, accompanying the application icon you will find three icons: a down arrow (which you have to press to save the image), a Google+ icon to share the image on this social network and a camera, which when pressed will either take a picture that to be edited later, or select an image from the gallery.
The bar offers numerous options for editing icons, and each has a name, similar to Instagram. The main difference with this application is that while Instagram just gives you the option to apply filters; with Snapseed you can always adjust the settings such as brightness, contrast, exposure controls (saturation and warmth) or colors, shades and environment.
The dynamics of the application is always the same (or very similar) for each type of setting. By sliding your finger on the image different options will appear, such as contrast or color correction, and with a swipe from left to right, you can increase or decrease the value of each category.
At the same time, when pressing on the screen, many editing options appear, such as a magnifying glass with which users can select the area of the image that they want to edit, while being able to change the brightness, contrast and saturation in different points of the same image. In any case, users can always select the preset values in each category or return to baseline.
As mentioned above, the application provides filters as creative adjustments such as "Black & White" or "Vintage" and others that will allow users to endow images with an original presentation. Another of the several advantages of Snapseed over Instagram is that it does not compress the photos, allowing users to view them in full size (6MP - 20MP) and high definition.
The truth is that Snapseed offers a wide variety of functions that initially may turn out to be a bit complicated. Users tend to get lost when they start adding different filters and effects on a single image. The options offered by the application usually can be found almost at a glance with the different tutorials, which teach users that most options can always be accessed by pressing the option "Show Overlay".
