The Real energy

Popular characters of comic books franchises such as DC share a common mythology detail, a rule that states the power of flying they have (some of them) is given thanks to the power of the sun; turns out that idea might not be such an imaginative matter but based on real life actually.

How so?

Well, the late discovery of how powerful sunlight really is didn’t come as a big surprise for the ignorance of humanity, but it rather turned out to be a marvelous revelation for people who were blindsided by the pre known main resources of energy. The fact that the sun could power up the same way and beyond, took people by surprises.

The Real energy

It’s been the most powerful and renewable source of energy since the beginning of life, and right now at our modern present we have many process and technologies that work better relaying on this choice; one great example of it is piloting its way right there at the skies of our beautiful earth and maybe soon over the space too.

A Swiss adventure that aims to the sun, while feeds off it! This is new innovative solar powered airplane ever seen with such majesty.

It is called the SolarStrakos and it took flight for the first time at the 5th of June this year, it is sited at Switzerland, on the airbase of Payerne. The enthusiast and expert behind this project is Raphael Domjan; the man worked in this project with the goal of reaching a height beyond the stratospheric level, but for this first try it reached around 75 thousand feet!

The plane has an armor of solar panels, a 25 meter dimension and it comes with only two seats (covered); the vehicle resembles a seagull and for the moment it remains as a prototype plane in early test phases. Even though the final goal is to reach such heights as bordering the space, the airplane simply cannot retain enough oxygen as a spacecraft so death is basically imminent with barely 2% chances of survival, and not even that, if it reaches 50º below zero you can die also; that’s why 80 thousand feet are still too much for the plane and the passengers to experience.

Sun Flight

The great adventure might still be in progress but the unbelievable was achieved nevertheless, sunlight has proven once again to be a massive source of energy; the fact that a plane only boosted up by the energy held on its 22 m² solar panel is a line for a new page in history.

What are the lengths such an invention can accomplish? In how much time the Solar Stratos will give birth to the ideal version of itself?

Time is the only master of this answer, things can speed up or just relax a little bit, but the truth is, it will never stop moving forward.

Out there in the aerodrome of Switzerland Payerne, there are another projects being developed hand by hand along with the Stratos, such as the Solar Impulse; another plan that works with solar energy too but with a different set of engine, which is in purpose in order to find the right design to accomplish the former goal of navigating the skies to touch the edge of space.
