The streets of the American city of Chicago were the scenery to hold the first Science and Technology festival called “Chicago Geek Street” at the Daley Plaza. 2000 kids from kinder to high school had the chance of explore the worlds of Tech, Engineering, science, math and arts, going through different activities.
The enterprise that made this event possible was Google, together with its spokeswoman, Engineer Jessie Chavez, who said that the principal objective to organize this festival was calling kid’s attention, so they can earn some interest about the scientific careers and feel motivated to choose them in the future.

Talking about the festival’s name, Jessie said that “A Geek is someone who interests on tech or electronics and it’s curious about solving problems related to these areas”. In the same way, she said that approximately twenty organizations, clubs, enterprises and colleges assisted to the event showing different games and activities for kids, all related to tech, robotics and science, to call all the boys and girls from Chicago’s locations.

Inside the event, the Chicago Knights Robotics team was present, group were the 16 years-old teenager, Eric Dueñas as scholar. He said that it’s possible the creation of a robot using a tiny device working as “brain” and incorporating it with a simple language of computational programming, and it can fit perfectly on a Lego-designed structure.
As example, Dueñas told the participants his experience while developing a robot designed by himself, teaming with his mates, capable of moving while following a circuit made by black lines working due to a sensor.

The 16-years-old, Karina Paniagua joined the event alongside with her cousin, the 18-years-old girl Cristal Gomez. Both girls, from Englewood, showed their satisfaction about the festival. Paniagua says that she feels really happy to see this kind of ideas, all because she is part of a summer program called “Tech Teens”, Tech related.
According to Suggestions by Google, tech related professional’s field is growing with the double of the normal speed at national level, showing us a projection of brand new jobs on the available areas for 2020. Despite this, the sad reality is that only the 2,4% of the college students graduate on tech-related careers. Because of this, the Internet’s Giant decided to motivate kids and teenagers that were at the event to learn more about these areas.
